WARS began as a trading card game (TCG) from Decipher, Inc. (2004 - 2005) and spawned its own roleplaying game (RPG) from Mongoose Publishing (2005). Now, Grail Quest Books is relaunching the sprawling science fiction franchise with WARS: The Battle of Phobos, a series of nine ebook novellas, later collected in three softcover collected editions. Of the nine novellas, three are being released for each faction (Earthers, Gongen, Mavericks). Nathan P. Butler has written the first two Earther faction novellas, Healers and Hunters (collected in Preludes) and On Red Soil (collected in Stretti).
WARS: The Battle of Phobos:
Earthers, Vol. 1: Healers and Hunters

The saga kicks off as XeLabs' Rogan Hallard, Jerlen Krae, and Alek Lissen are called upon to save Jossel Swin's CGC patrol craft, downed by the Maverick group known as the Cartel, run by the mysterious Gambler. They must also race to recover a stolen piece of XeLabs Earther technology before it can fall into the hands of the Cartel . . . or Earther espionage corporation CISyn.

This story was previously available as a standalone illustrated novella (which is technically still out there if you know where to look). However, a new illustrated novella version in a new form is in the cards, so, for now, the ebook version is the best way to get this single story, or you can pick up Preludes (below).

WARS: The Battle of Phobos:
Earthers, Vol. 2: On Red Soil

The saga continues as Rogan Hallard, Jerlen Krae, and Jannett Yens travel behind enemy lines on Gongen to recover Earther diplomat Kippli Darnel . . . but has he been kidnapped or has he gone rogue? The chase is on for sensitive intel, the missing diplomat, and the truth. (Available in ebook form.)
